Competent Climber (Adult)

This form is for over-18s who meet the standards to climb without supervision.

Please fill out the Novice (Adult) form as well as this one, as it covers the inherent risks and safety guidelines.

By registering as a Competent Climber (Adult) with BPC, you accept full responsibility for your own safety. We also hope that you assume a duty of care towards other climbers – to promote best practice and safety at the Centre (in a friendly supportive manner).

As a Competent Climber you can supervise up to two Novices (only one climber at a time), taking full responsibility for their safety. If you intend to supervise other climbers we recommend BMC membership, as it includes personal liability insurance for unpaid/volunteer supervision (among other things).

You are permitted to Lead climb at your own risk, using personal equipment.

Lead climbing requires additional expertise - You are permitted IF you have received training or reached a level of competence to understand and mitigate the additional risks.

You'll need to demonstrate the required skills to a BPC Instructor to get the all clear.
